5 Binge-worthy Shows

Cleaned out your closet. Dusted your mantle. Ate all your food. Now what? Park your booty on the couch and enjoy some one-on-one time with your TV/Tablet. BTW, most streaming sites offer anywhere from 14 to 30 day free trials so dig in!

Here are a few recommendations.

Tiger King

Netflix, TV-MA

Tiger King
Tiger King

If you want some salacious, mind-numbing action-packed Netflix series, then please don’t hesitate to check this one out. The story line is centered around Tiger Tamer, Joe Exotic and his arch nemesis Tiger Rescuer– Carole Baskin. I was super skeptical and thought this show was going to be a waste of time (still might be true , but time is all we have right now). Instead I was hooked from the first 15 minutes. If for nothing else, watch this show to understand the hilarious memes circulating social media.

Curb Your Enthusiasm

HBO, TV-MA

Larry David Curb Your Enthusiasm
Larry David – Curb Your Enthusiasm

Larry David is one of my all time faves. You may know him best for his hit show “Friends”.  This show focuses on Larry David (the character) and his everyday life dealing with everyday issues. I find myself shamelessly understanding Larry’s cynical ways.  Curb has been one of my go-to’s for dry humor and upbeat scenarios. If you are looking for a chill and light- hearted show, then look no further.

The Handmaid’s Tale

Hulu, TV-MA

The Handmaid's Tale
The Handmaid’s Tale

Starring Elizabeth Moss, this show focuses on the life in the dystopia of Gilead, a totalitarian society set in the United States. Gilead is ruled by fundamentalists that treat women as property used to only serve and revive the plummeting birth rate. This show will have you on the edge of your seat evaluating the importance of feminism and equality. There are currently 4 seasons out on Hulu and I can’t wait for the Season 5 release.

This Is Us

Hulu, TV-PG

This Is Us
This Is Us

My favorite! A show that follows triplets (twins and their adopted brother) as they face life’s joys and pains from childhood to adulthood. This show will have you laughing, crying, and give you feel-good vibes all around. Each show encompasses a life lesson that will leave a lasting impression.

Self Made

Netflix, TV-MA

Octavia Spencer Self Made
Self Made

From washer woman in poverty to Self made Millionaire,  Octavia Spencer is Madam CJ Walker. This series provides not only female empowerment and scandal but offers underlying helpful business strategies that are still relevant today. This show is an emotional and inspiring true story of a woman overcoming societal and financial setbacks.

Honorable Mention (just because 5 sounded better than 6)

Ozarks

(Netflix) TV-MA

ozark
Ozark

An American crime drama, starring Jason Bateman (a financial Adviser) and Laura Linney. The show follows a married couple who is forced to move from Chicago to Missouri (the Ozarks) to attempt to launder $500 million to a Mexican Cartel (Bateman’s drug boss) over the next 5 years, or else. I have not watched this show yet but have heard only good things. This is next on my must-watch list.

Let me know what you are watching right now. Don’t forget to like, comment and share.

  1. Hahah I watch Tiger King and I told myself I’m not about to give in.. like I saw the memes and I saw the trailer and I was like nope can’t do it! But my friend watched it and was like girl just watch it for me so we can talk about it so I did! Girl the series was good. Weird, but good. Guys I agree, you have to watch. The Ozarks— I’m starting to watch it cuz hey time is all we have…. it’s so far not bad, kinda slow getting my interest but I’m going to keep watching, its ranked in Netflix top 10. I loved Madam CJ Walker! The new season of Insecure is coming on, so it’s definitively binge worthy! Greys Anatomy is too! I binged Black Lightning this week. It took me about 3-4 days to watch all 3 seasons.
